Bayaan’s story started back in 2015, during jam sessions for a music show. It was during the jam and recording sessions for this show that the future members of the band, all college students at the time, met and became fast friends; their musical chemistry and mutual love for horrible jokes and horror movies meant that it was inevitable that they would continue making music together. The band comprises of Asfar Hussain on vocals, Haider Abbas on bass, Shahrukh Aslam and Muqueet Shahzad on guitars, and Mansoor Lashari on drums. While Asfar Hussain has an undergraduate degree in Musicology, the rest of the band members are self-taught.
Coming up with a band name involved quite a lot of head scratching as a wide array of names floated around but nothing that really defined the band and their music. Asfar eventually coined the name Bayaan, a simple word which literally means a statement. The name perfectly embodies the band’s ideology of stating and describing human experiences and emotions and how they are reflected in different situations of life. Bayaan tries not to confine itself to any specific style or genre of music, endeavoring instead to explore a new musical and lyrical direction with every composition. Till now, the band’s music has seen a range of genres including pop, ambient rock, progressive and alternative.
Bayaan hopes to walk the fine line between artistic authenticity and reaching as many people as possible. “We see ourselves creating meaningful compositions and affecting people on personal levels. We also hope to collaborate with prominent music producers and musicians in the future.”
Bayaan’s journey in Pepsi Battle of the Bands was nothing less than exhilarating. From receiving positive feedback from the judges in the auditions to the multiple danger zone trips, the roller coaster ride that the band went through was a very rewarding experience. The collective efforts of each member resulted in the band lifting the Battle of the Bands trophy.
Winning Pepsi Battle of the Bands has brought Bayaan into the spotlight. With multiple concerts across Pakistan and an album deal, the band is constantly gaining momentum. Rocking the stage with their unique sound, Bayaan has established itself as a prominent name in the Pakistani music industry.
