The series follows a group of detectives under a newly appointed Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), this award-winning US sitcom brings some light relief to the overdone crime procedural genre.
Andy Samberg(Of SNL fame) stars as Detective Jake Peralta, a relaxed, carefree but very talented detective who constantly butts heads with his more by the book colleague Detective Amy Santiago.
Jokes abound in this ensemble comedy filled with absurd and eccentric characters from foodie Detective Boyle to incompetent but not entirely useless Detectives Hitchcock and Scully. We also have scary and mysterious Detective Rosa Diaz and Sergeant Terry Geffords who plays mother hen to his chicks in the precinct. And rounding out the cast is the witty and sarcastic Gina Linetti, a civilian administrator who loves to dance and hates to work.
Created by Dan Goor and Michael Shur, the duo behind Parks & Recreation this show hits all the right notes and is an easy on the brain watch and the best part about it? It’s on Netflix so go ahead and binge watch all three seasons. Trust us, its worth it!

Magpie
Murders
—by Anthony Horowitz
Paying homage to the works of writers like Agatha Christie, this is a modern update on the vintage crime novel. Designed to contain a novel within a novel there is more than one mystery to be solved in this story as we follow Susan Ryeland, a book editor reading the latest manuscript from mystery writer Alan Conway, which is set in the 1950’s and follows Atticus Punt, a German who survived the war and is now a private investigator in 1950’s England, that has been asked to investigate the death of a local village busy-body.
Nearing the end of the manuscript, she discovers the last chapters are missing and, almost at the same time, she discovers that Alan Conway has died and, in a manner that mirrors his fictional character, Conway discovers he had a terminal illness and ended his life. As Susan sets out to try to discover the missing chapters of the last Atticus Punt mystery, Magpie Murders, she realises there are real life parallels between the novel and Conway’s life, as well as links between his death and the mystery.
